IPG Photonics High-Power Fiber Laser Resonator

General

The IPG Photonics YLS Laser Resonator is located outside of the laser cutting booth at Station 090. The laser controller is responsible for generating the laser beam. A fiber optic cable transfers the laser beam to the laser head mounted to the end of the robot. This process requires great precision and control of the laser power level, leaser beam focusing, and robotic movement. It also requires cooling water to maintain the proper operating temperatures in the laser resonator and the laser head.

The IPG Photonics Higher Power Fiber Laser YLS system are High Power Class IV laser instruments under 21 CFR 1040.10 . These units emit visible and or invisible laser radiation at, or around, a wavelength of 900-1200nm invisible and 532-680nm for red and or green visible lasers. The total light energy radiated from the optical output (laser heads) is greater than the nominal power of the device model per optical output port. This level of light may cause severe damage to the eye and skin. With invisible radiation, the beam may cause irreversible damage to the retina and or cornea.

Major Components

The IPG Photonics High-Power Fiber Laser Resonator features the following components.

Item Description Function
A Beam Switch Directs the emission from the feeding fiber to the selected process fiber.
B Feeding Fiber Transmits the laser emission from the splice box to the integrated optics.
C Process Fibers Transmits the laser emission from the integrated optics to the work piece.
D Laser Module Power Supplies Provides DC power to the laser modules.
E Splice Box Connects the output of the splice box into the feeding fiber.
F Laser Modules Generates laser emissions.
G Water Manifold and Flow Meters Distributes the cooling water to the laser modules and power supplies. Flow meters monitor and indicate flow rates..
H Optical Combiner Connects the optical fibers from all of the optical modules to the splicer box.
