ABB 7th Axis Slide Units

General

There are three (3) 7th axis slide unit located in the 2V02 Underbody Structure Cell. The 7th axis slide allows for the robots to have an increased working range and movement to transfer parts between station, perform part loading operations, or part unload operations.

The station robots sits on a riser mounted to a platen. The platen is mounted to six bearing carriages that ride along a set of linear rails. A servo motor with a direct drive gear reducer and gear rack provide the linear motion. The robot's cables and hoses are contained in a flexible carrier that functions as a guiding system that prevents any tangling, twisting, and kinking of the cables and hoses during the robot's movement.

The ABB 7th Axis Slide Units are used with the following robots:

  • 2V02=V01AR41UQ41
  • 2V02=V01AR42UQ41
  • 2V02=V01AR11UQ41

Major Components

The ABB 7th Axis Slide Units features the following components.

Item Description Function
A Motor Drives the movement of the slide unit and the robot arm.
B Gearbox Reduces the speed of the motor for the 7th axis, which allows for greater precision and accuracy in the movement of the robot arm. Also provides torque amplification, which allows the motor to generate more force to move the heavy robot arm along the slide unit.
C Carriage The robot is attached onto the carriage, which slides along the rail to move the robot into position.
D Cable Chain Protects and organizes the various cables and hoses that are used to control and power the robot.
E Gear Rack Meshes with the gearbox and provides a linear guidance system for the robot arm as it moves along the length of the slide unit.
F Linear Guides Supports and guide the robot along the length of the slide unit.
