Geo Fixture

General

There are several Geo Fixtures mounted on top of the turntables located throughout the Geo Fixture Cell. The Geo Fixtures perform the holding of parts during robot pick, place, and securing parts and while robot(s) perform the required welding, sealant, or laser welding operations. The fixtures can be simple or complex based on the parts to be processed. To secure the parts during operation, the Geo Fixture features multiple clamps that grip and secure the part, preventing any movement from occurring.

The following Geo Fixtures are located on the 2V02 Underbody Structure Cell:

  • 2V02=V01GM1UQ51
  • 2V02=V01GM2UQ51
  • 2V02=V01WR1UQ51

Major Components

Item Description Function
A Pneumatic Panel Controls the pneumatics for the Geo Fixture. Also sends and receives signals to/from the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).
B Rail Allows the fixture, set on bearing blocks, to slide along the length of the base.
C Bearing Block Allows the Geo Fixture to slide on the rails.
D Shock Absorber Dampens and absorbs impact of the movement of the Geo Fixture when moving on the slide and coming close to the end point of the Rail.
E Rough Locators To ensure parts are properly loaded onto the Geo Fixture, the Rough Locators provide a way for the operator to align and place the parts into the fixture.
F Inductive Sensor Detects the presence or absence of metal objects without making physical contact with them. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When a metal object is brought near the sensor, it disturbs the electromagnetic field produced by the sensor, which in turn causes a change in the sensor output signal.
G Locating Pins The Locating Pins on the Geo Fixture allow for the accurate and controlled placement of the parts. When the operator loads the part onto the Geo Fixture, the part must have each locating pin inserted into the locating hole.
H Clamps The Tunkers clamps actuate via pneumatic cylinder and secures the part into position while welding operations are preformed.
