Material Handling End of Arm Tooling

General

Material Handling End of Arm Tooling (EOAT), or end effector, is manipulated through programmed sequences to perform specific part handling and transfer functions. Typically, the robot controller will control the gripper clamps using digital I/O modules. Each material handling EOAT is made for a specific application.

The Material Handling Robots are located on both ends of each 7th axis robot slides:

Major Components

The Material Handling End of Arm Tooling (EOAT) features the following internal components.

Item Description Function
A Tool Changer Helps in the swapping of tools from the Robot to the Weld Gun Change Stand or EOAT Storage Rack and visa versa.
B Pneumatic Air Panel Controls the pneumatics for the material handler. Also sends and receives signals to the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).
C Shot Pin Secures the part into place in the material handling fixture.
D Dual Cap Dresser Removes the welding caps and installs a new pair to the spot welder.
E Tunkers Clamp Secures the part during the transportation of the part.
F Locating Pin Ensures parts are properly loaded onto the material handler. They provide a way for the robot to align and place the parts into the fixture.
G Inductive Sensor Detects the presence or absence of metal objects without making physical contact with them. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When a metal object is brought near the sensor, it disturbs the electromagnetic field produced by the sensor, which in turn causes a change in the sensor output signal.
H Laser Sensor Provide real-time feedback on the robot's surrounding, and part location. They detect and measure the distance between the material handler and parts and other objects in the robot's work zone.
