Pierce Unit

General

At the Pierce Unit, Robot V01AR11 places the cross-member onto the fixture. The part is clamped and then the cross-member is pierced, and then the part is un-clamped. The operator removes the cross-member from the fixture and places it in the parts bin.

Major Components

The Pierce Unit features the following components.

Item Description Function
A Clamps The Tunkers clamps actuate via pneumatic cylinder and secures the part into position while piercing operations are preformed.
B Locating Pins The Locating Pins on the Pierce Unit allow for the accurate and controlled placement of the parts. When the robot loads the part onto the Pierce Unit, the part must have each locating pin inserted into the locating holes.
C Vacuum Tube Directs material removed during piercing out of the station. There is one on each side.
D Pierce Cylinders When the part is in position, pierces the cross-member by extending into the part and then retracting.
E Pneumatic Air Panel Controls the pneumatics for the pierce unit. Also sends and receives signals to the PLC.
