ABB Tip Dresser

General

The 2V11 Bodyside Sub Cell features ABB Tip Dressing Units. After a programmed number of weld operations, the robot will move over to the Tip Dresser to refurbish the welding electrode's copper tips. To refurbish the electrodes, the tip dresser features cutter units that will begin the reshaping of the worn electrode caps.

Once the cutting operations are completed, the tip dresser features a vacuum unit that will remove any chips or debris.

Major Components

The ABB Tip Dresser features the following components. Each tip dresser also has a controls with a disconnect near the bottom of the stand.

Item Description Function
A TCP Check Beam The laser scans the welding electrodes after tip dressing. If there is a failure, it will repeat the tip dress procedure.
B Dresser Unit Uses blades to refurbish the welding electrode's copper tips.
C Vacuum Chip Cleaner Removes the chips and debris from the dresser unit.
D Solenoid Valve Controls pneumatic pressure for the blowing nozzle to clean off the metal chips.
E Disconnect Switch Removes power from the ABB Tip Dresser for servicing.
